Hardgoods Manager
Job Summary:

The Hardgoods Manager will model exemplary customer service and be a proponent for all hardgoods including plant solutions, pottery and décor.
The Hardgoods Manager will ensure customer satisfaction is maximized through effective and strategic product placement while ensuring appropriate levels of stock are always maintained. This individual will further be responsible for constructing promotional and seasonal displays according to designated plans and guidelines and will ensure product placement is neat and correctly labelled for customer satisfaction.
Other responsibilities will include the effective attraction, retention and coaching of talented employees, providing the motivation for increased sales and customer service levels. The Hardgoods Manager must possess a superior business intellect, responding quickly and effectively to marketplace dynamics by creating strategies that will ensure our continued success.
Responsibilities:
- Build a team committed to high standards of service, exceeding customer expectations by leading by example
- Be an information source for all customers and Daymakers on all plant solutions, pottery and décor
- Assist in developing product placement plans to aid customers in locating required products
- Maintain all merchandising standards while rotating products as required
- Build and maintain product displays in compliance with company guidelines
- Communicate with the Warehouse Coordinator daily to ensure proper product is being transferred
- Assemble fixtures as required
- Assist in the loading and unloading of deliveries when necessary
- Design retail floorplans, develop a retail readiness plan and facilitate retail change-over that’s approved by the Retail Manager and implemented by the Merchandiser or Hardgoods team under your direction
- Perform activities including scheduling of staff, hiring, training, motivating and performance management in consultation with the Human Resources Department
- Weekly plan meetings with Retail Buyer and Warehouse Coordinator
- Lead Standup Meetings for the Hardgoods department and delegate tasks and responsibilities
- Coordinate the Pottery & Décor Buyer and Warehouse Coordinator to ensure the movement and pricing of all hardgoods is optimal
- Analyze inventory needs based on sales trends and forecasts as well as inventory levels
- Responsible for buying all products in the Plant Solutions category
- Place orders and re-orders with chosen vendors for all plant solution products that balance customer need, inventory control and profit margin.
- Maintain sustainable vendor relationships that ensure timely deliveries and the most competitive pricing
- Work with Receiving Department to ensure that all hardgoods have been accurately inputted into the point-of-sale system (POS) and that the price points are accurate and reflect an appropriate price point
- Contribute to the overall success of Heeman’s by overseeing/supporting other relevant projects and exhibiting a positive attitude and positive work habits.
- Work in compliance with all human resources, operational (SOP) and Food, Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Work Experience Requirements:
- Supervisory or management experience in retail, food or other related industry
- Customer service experience
- Visual merchandising and/or inventory control experience
- Exposure to quality control in a previous role is preferred
- Prior agriculture or greenhouse work experience is considered an asset
Language Requirements:
- Advanced English (written and oral)
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of plant solutions, pottery, décor and other hardgoods
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Leadership skills and the capacity to train, coach and inspire fellow Daymakers
- Time management skills and the ability to manage frequent interruptions
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail
- Advanced comprehension of industry practices and demonstrated ability to read floor plans and/or planograms
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites
- A forklift license, or willingness to obtain one

- Ability to stand for 9+ hour shift
- Ability to work in greenhouse conditions (please see working environment)
- Manual dexterity required
Working Environment:
The working environment of warehouse and greenhouse includes:
- Direct & indirect sunlight
- High humidity
- Hot and cold temperatures
- Wind, rain & snow
Availability
- Availability to work during all hours of operation (which will include evening and weekends)
- Availability to work up to 6 days per work
- Flexibility to accommodate scheduling changes
- Open availability for peak season (May 1st to July 3rd)
