About the Role:

The Hardgoods Supervisor will ensure customer satisfaction is maximized through effective and strategic product placement while ensuring appropriate levels of stock are always maintained. This individual will further be responsible to assist the Hardgoods Manager in implementing promotional and seasonal displays according to designated plans and guidelines and will ensure product placement is neat and correctly labelled for customer satisfaction.  The Hardgoods Supervisor will work alongside the Hardgoods team on a day to day basis completing and supervising daily tasks.  This work may include stocking shelves, warehouse pulls, stickering product, merchandising and customer service on the retail floor.

  • Assist the team by being committed to high standards of service, exceeding customer expectations and leading by example
  • Be an information source for all customers and Daymakers on all plant solutions, pottery and décor
  • Identify current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers to understand service requirements
  • Maintain current knowledge of current market/trends
  • Implement retail floor plans and facilitate retail change-over
  • Coordinate with Hardgoods Manager in implementing product placement plans to aid customers in locating required products and maintain merchandising standards while rotating products as required
  • Contribute to the overall success of Heeman’s by providing supervision and support to the hardgoods team on a day to day basis including creating break and lunch schedules
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and create effective work habits for the hardgoods team
  • Maintain all merchandising standards while rotating products as required including ensuring necessary signage and stickering is up to date
  • Assist the Hardgoods Manager with product training for Daymakers
  • Coordinate with the Hardgoods Manager to assist with set up of retail floor plans and facilitate retail change-over
  • Work with the Hardgoods Manager to create daily task lists and assist the Hardgoods team by implementing the tasks and responsibilities
  • Use Heeman’s access data program to create daily pull lists for the warehouse
  • Assist Hardgoods Manager and Warehouse Coordinator with completing product inventories
  • Effectively communicate with inventory team, Hardgoods Coordinator and Hardgoods Manager regarding new products and stock levels
  • Assist team members with stocking, pricing and displaying products on the floor
  • Work with the inventory control team and Hardgoods Manager to ensure accuracy of hardgoods items into the point-of-sale system (POS)
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of deliveries
  • Work in compliance with all human resources, operational (SOP) and Food, Health & Safety policies and procedures

What Will You Bring to the Table?

  • Excellent customer service skills, both written and verbal
  • Open communication style
  • Knowledge of plant solutions, pottery, décor and other hardgoods
  • Strong computer literacy using Google suite
  • Leadership and capacity to train, coach and inspire fellow Daymakers
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to respond under pressure
  • Positive attitude, self-starter, takes initiative
  • Capable of following directions, working independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage frequent interruptions
  • Adaptability to a continuously changing work environment
  • Customer service experience
  • Supervisory experience in retail, food or other related industry
  • Garden, plant and pest knowledge is considered an asset
  • Understanding of industry practices and demonstrated ability to read floor plans and/or planograms is considered an asset
  • Visual merchandising and/or inventory control experience is considered an asset
  • Prior retail, agriculture or greenhouse experience is considered an asset
  • Language: advanced English (written and oral)

Physical Requirements:

  • Capability to perform in a fast-paced environment with seasonal changeovers, and physically demanding work, including prolonged standing and lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to work in greenhouse conditions

Greenhouse Conditions:
The working environment of greenhouse includes:

  • Direct and indirect sunlight
  • High humidity, hot and cold temperatures
  • Wind, rain, snow

Availability Requirements:

  • Availability to work before and after regular hours and during all hours of operation (including evenings and weekends)
  • Availability to work up to 6 days per week
  • Flexibility to accommodate scheduling changes
  • Open availability for peak season (May 1st – 31st)
  • Transportation plan; Heeman’s is not located on a bus route
