Thank you to everyone who came out to the fields this year and made 2012 such a memorable strawberry picking season. We hope you made some memories and got lots of yummy berries. We look forward to seeing your again in 2013.
Unfortunately due to the unpredictable weather this year as brought our whole region strawberry picking season was cut shorter than normal. We apologize if you missed your chance to come out and pick. We do still have our everbearing strawberries as well as raspberries available all summer long.
Pick Your Own Strawberries at Heeman's
There are few things that compares to the taste of a field fresh picked Heeman strawberry. The only thing better might be a fresh Heeman strawberry you picked yourself. For three generations now families have been coming to our fields to pick their own strawberries, share in a family experience and get in touch with nature.
PYO strawberries are a highlight of many families in our neighbourhood and we are happy to have been visit our farm, share a free wagon ride out to the field and experience how delicious a strawberry can be when you pick it yourself.
Our season usually opens for PYO in the middle of June and lasts till the beginning of July, just in time for a post school celebration. We allow people to pick into your own container, as long as we can fit it on our scales, just have it weighed before hand so we only charge for berries, not baskets. We charge by the pound so you are only charged for what you picked. We offer baskets to people for a small charge if you don't bring any containers to pick into.
For your convenience there is jams and jam making products available on location so you can race home after picking to make fresh strawberry jam or sundae sauce.
The PYO field is located 1.5km down Nissouri Rd. (if coming off Dundas St.) just south of the Garden Centre.
Our price is based on weight, $1.80 per pound. You're welcome to pick into any container you like, so long as we can fit it on our scales. Our normal operating hours when we have strawberries are,
Monday - Friday 8:00am - 8:00pm
Saturday - Sunday 8:00am - 5:00pm
If you are looking to plant your school trip or group outing please call Florence at 519-461-0181 for reservations. Our packages are $7.00 per person and include a tour of the field, wagon ride behind a John Deere and a quart of strawberries.
